The journey starts at Chinese Base Camp. From there the team will trek to Advanced Base Camp over rough paths and morraine, with some river crossings on route, taking approximately two days. From ABC (5,800m) to Camp One (6,500m) they will climb up morraine/scree. It can snow at this level.
From Camp One to Camp Two (7,100m) they must climb a rounded snow ridge to the ice cliff. Once over this they will climb up a gentle glacial slope to camp.
Camp Two to Camp Three (7,400m) is a relatively short day (3-4 hours) up a glacial slope. Summit day involves climbing moderate glacial snow slopes interspersed with short rocky steps, followed by a long snow slope and plateaux. It takes about six hours to the summit. All difficult/exposed/crevassed sections will have fixed ropes.
